Abstract

In the beginning chapter of this book David Wheeler and Vernon M. Whaley laid out a different position of worship, the Great Commission and evangelism, which is very difficult. After that, these two writers explained in the following chapters for a purposeful appliance point of view. In this book, the authors intended to put the readers in a place where the readers are bound to think that worship not just equal to the church service, singing or praising. The authors exhibit their expertise to present Evangelism in such a way that most of the common people who worship Jesus have never experienced while showing Evangelism has an interconnection with worship in a correct way.

One of the awkwardness could be found in this book when the authors explain worship as “obedience.” According to the authors worship should not be considered as an “event” organized by God, rather “it is an act of unbridle obedience even without understanding.” In this context, the author mentioned about Abraham and stated “Abraham did not possess a guitar, piano or any musical instrument.  All he had was obedience.”[1]

According to the authors to gain, primary salvation people bound to worship God and consider worshiping as their primary goal. Then the author wrote about the sequence of scriptures to distribute or circulate the idea to merge worship with evangelism as a “holistic presentation”, which have a separate resolution from each other. From the book, it is observed that the concept of worship and evangelism mediate its path through a “personal relationship” as well as worshiping Jesus.

However, finally, it is found that the authors, David Wheeler, and Vernon M. Whaley announce their purpose of the Great Commission, which is to carry the gospel towards a dying as well as the lost world, but the heart of this world still belongs to Jesus. Adulating Jesus may result to open the door for the Holy Spirits who can empower them to declare, “Wonders to the lost.”[2] Therefore, the worship is visional.

Concrete Response

In the context of concrete answer, I can recall my childhood days when I used to visit church with my father. I was a very shy kid and never approached to any unknown person. I only start talking with an unknown person when the person starts conversation initially. This makes me relate to the context of ignorance. I followed my father to the church out of respect but not out of worship. I can distinctly remember that my father was a religious person, and I discussed with him a lot about worship. Once my father replied to me, “It is not the right time when the right time will come to God will send evangelist to do the work, and you will reckon when it is your calling.” Eventually, I asked, “How?” He answered, “God will send his message.” I accepted his answer and started living with philosophy. I had a belief that an evangelist still has influential work in the society.

Reflection

When I went through the book, one question rose in my mind about “worship is obedience”. I could agree with the proclamation to certain premises of that concept.  However, people are amenable to a lot of things, a true church that does not make them worship God by being obedient to him.

The authors (David Wheeler and Vernon M. Whaley) could have given a more incompetent perspective of obedience.  It is found that gospel explains who Jesus is and draws people to worship and be obedient. I found that just because they are praying does not mean they are going to be obedient; the correlation may be without comprehensive explanation. Leaving the individual to believe one can be considered as an automatic response to the other. Example, you can be in church worshipping God, still living a sinful life yourself and not be converted to obedience.  However, you were in church to worship God that day.  This example shows the coalition is not a definitive connection between the two of them.

Action

Changes I am going to make in my Life are as follows

The Great Commission played a significant role in order to open my eyes to an entirely new way of looking at evangelism and worship. Now I am able to see myself utilizing them in combination to make the Great Commission, which may be more productive and conducive to my mission for Christ.

I see now being more aware of my surroundings and using that as an opportunity to look for people to witness too.  I can take the concept that the authors of this book (Wheeler and Whaley) presented in their book “The Great Commission to Worship”.  I am able to worship Jesus to gain his perspective and spirit when I approach individual or groups on the street.  Then I must be obedient to the process of being aware of my surrounding’s for perspective people in order to evangelize the message of Christ.

I realize most of the people has an opportunity to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ with the utmost humility. When I went through the book I managed to discover that I can be more of an access to Jesus only if I let him guide me through worship and obedience. Even though I recognized that, the book can have a little more improvement. Overall, the concept of this book has motivated me to improve my skills to the people while I approach with the gospel.  No one is off limits as long as I approach them with the humility of Christ and not be overbearing as to turn them away from Christ.

Changes I am going to make in my Ministries are as follows-

The changes in the department will be immediate, starting with changing the mindset of the members. Bible class will have an additive to it prickling in evangelism as a form of worship. Teaching them to look beyond the four walls of the church in obedience to reach and teach someone consistently.

If I can get them to see that, we can incorporate the Great Commission through worshiping Jesus as a focal point for evangelism. Then we can become more proactive in the community as Disciples of Christ.  The church does community service by helping others in need; however, there is no real evangelism activities were finding lost soul is the primary reason for Discipleship.

I will see about setting up some signatures of commitment to evangelize during Bible class on certain days out the week as a group for a learning experience for all involved

Changes in my Work I would like to perform as follows

The changes in work I would make are a little more complicated because I already evangelize there.  I will have to be slightly more creative in my approach.  I can collaborate a meeting where I offer dinner to individuals and their families and use that as an opportunity to evangelize to the whole family.

According to my opinion, this could be an excellent situation to gain their trust and open them up to the world of the gospel together.
